The Green Room made its cricket debut at The Kia Oval for the England v Australia One Day International. With new ambassadors Darren Gough & Kevin Pietersen at the helm it was sure to be a day to remember for any cricket fan.
As guests arrived they were welcomed by a glass of champagne as they took to their seats inside The Green Room, which has stunning panoramic views over the pitch. Once guests were settled our ambassadors Darren Gough and Kevin Pietersen were joined on stage by host Mark Durden-Smith. As any Green Room VIP guest will know Mark Durden-Smith leads the day’s proceedings brilliantly by engaging our guest panel, Goughie and KP to regale the audience with stories from their cricket days, they also gave their comments as to how they thought the England v Australia match would play out. Not only were our guests treated to these cricket starts, but Australia cricket legend Jeff Thomson joined the panel to give our guests some great insight into the game and the Australian cricket team.
With the guests thoroughly entertained the sumptuous four course meal was served. For starter, there was smoked salmon with samphire and lemon peas, followed by a main of 28 days aged fillet of beef with a pomme pureé, sprouting broccoli, peppercorn sauce. Dessert was a Summer raspberry tart with mango cream and to round it off there was a selection of English & Continental cheeses with homemade chutney & crackers. The Green Room guests then made their way to their match seats which were situated behind the bowler’s arm with superb views of the day’s action.
After first innings guests made their way back into The Green Room, where they were treated to afternoon tea with a great selection of treats including a selection of gourmet sandwiches, scones, clotted cream and jam, battenberg loaf and fruit choux buns.
Of course, The Green Room wouldn’t be complete without our celeb line-up, and this fixture was no exception. We were joined by TV presenter and journalist Piers Morgan who entertained the audience with a Q&A with Mark Durden-Smith. We were also joined by Green Room regular Sir Clive Woodward, but to complete our cricket line-up, we were joined by Phil Tuffnel in the afternoon. Phil went up on stage with Darren & Kevin to ensure there was some great cricket banter. There were plenty of autograph opportunities as our guests were gifted miniature cricket bats that they could get signed by friends of The Green Room in attendance.
It was an excellent round-off to the day as England showed why they are the World number 1 ranked ODI team as they defeated Australia in spectacular style to start the series off in the lead. Discover more from the day’s events by taking a look at our gallery below.
