Phil Tufnell is an English former cricketer turned popular television personality, featuring as team captain on ‘A Question of Sport’ as well as popping up on a host of other shows. Having joined us in The Green Room for The Ashes in 2019, we can’t wait to welcome back one of the most popular characters in English cricket.
Tipped as the most talented English spinner of his generation, Phil took over 121 Test wickets in his career, placing him 41st in the list of most wickets by an England bowler. He played 42 Tests and 20 One-Day Internationals for England between 1990 and 2001, and 316 first-class matches, mainly for Middlesex.
Phil retired from professional cricket before the 2003 season in order to participate in the reality television show ‘I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!’ which he won, and was a team captain on the sports quiz show ‘They Think It’s All Over’ until 2005. In addition to his TV commitments, Phil has also been a regular summariser and commentator on BBC Radio’s Test Match Special since 2003.
He is also the author of a number of humorous books such as, “Phil Tufnell’s A To Z of Cricket” (2003), Tuffers’ Cricket Hall of Fame (2012) and How Not To Be A Cricketer (2022).
Known for his larger than life character and irrepressible sense of humour, ‘The Cat’ will be joining Darren Gough and Steve Harmison in The Green Room for the England v India ODI and you can meet him there.
